table finishing, blog changing

Today involved: three coats of finish on our new table, new blog design (refresh your browsers) and a massive headache from the finish goo.

Neither of us have ever finished furniture (well, apparently Chop worked at an antique shop for five minutes before he got fired for not being so hot at refinishing furniture, hehe), so it was a very interesting learning experience.

It turns out we aren’t half bad… or it’s just not that hard, because the table looks pretty good.

It’s incredibly time-consuming (two hour wait time between coats, three coats, sanding, etc.), the odor is irritating and all the damn animals wanted into the kitchen to sniff around, but it was actually kinda fun.

We’re planning to tackle the chairs this week, before his sister comes to visit (on Valentine’s Day, the cock blocker), and hopefully they will be a bit faster.

Somehow I doubt it, lol.

Oh, and for added fun, the Chop is now blogging. Unemployment has made him very chatty. 😛

54

This incredibly hot lady is my momma, and today she turned 54. I called and woke her up at 7AM (because I am nice like that) and she informed me that it was OK, she had to get up with the puppy anyway. Who was cuddled with her in bed. My sister is out of town so my mom is playing grandma.

That’s one of the things I miss most about living far from home… free pet care!

Happy Birthday Mom!

83

Today my Nana should’ve turned 83. Instead it’ll be five years this July that she’s been gone.

I don’t have many photos of her with my grandfather, as he died in 1966, but in the ones I do have, I can tell she adored him.

So I know that if she’s with him, she’s happy. Even if the rest of us are left without her.

super aftermath

Super Tuesday is awesome and I love election years to bits and pieces.

I’m only sad that I’m no longer in college, lol, because being on a crazy-for-politics campus during a presidential election was one of my greatest years in college. The debate, the arguments, the insanity… good times. 🙂

Personally, I’m all about Obama, but one of my closest friends from college is a crazy Republican and desperately wanted Ron Paul to win. I haven’t figured out who she’s going for now, but I’m sure I’ll get a phone call this evening. She’s at CPAC, a crazy Republican convention and every year I get drunken calls from some party at 2AM. Makes me kinda miss college, just a little bit.

ah, the super bowl

The Super Bowl is way too stressful for me, particularly now that we’re in the third quarter and it’s 7-3.

So I’m working on contract jobs and debating the merits of the commercials.

So far? Totally unimpressive.

Update 10:09PM.. Damn, wtf? We lost the Super Bowl?! Unbelievable. The Giants kicked ass.

laud the 1TB

We recently got a 1TB hard drive, and last night I finally used Leopard’s new Time Machine to back up my entire computer.

Then I deleted over 12 gigs of pictures, mail from my previous employer and downloads (mostly mail ones that I forgot existed in a separate folder… haha, oops).

It’s the first time in almost six months that I’ve had over four gigs of free space, and it’s lovely. I often work with large pictures, and I have been regularly receiving “your start up disk is almost full” messages, which requires one to start deleting maniacally so as to continue working.

It was a pain in the ass.

Now it is beautiful.

On another thought, my mother’s birthday is in a week and I have no ideas (she doesn’t either, argh). Anyone have a good suggestion?

raise please!

When the Chop and I first moved in together, I was still unemployed following my departure from the job from hell. I remember being irritated that I had nothing really to do, and he was lucky to still have a regular job.

The role reversal is odd. And it’s only been one day.

Also, he makes more money getting unemployment (hell yeah we filed for that… damages the old boss) than I do. Problem? Yes, I think so.

go celtics!

For his birthday I got the Chop floor seats to the Celtics game this evening. Surprisingly, it was loads of fun and the game came down to the last seconds with the Celtics beating the Timberwolves 87-86.

The most interesting part of the evening, however, was the liquor purchasing policy. If you have a MA id and are over 21, you are fine. If you have an out-of-state id you have to be over 25. HOWEVER, if you are between 25 and 30, you have to have a second form of id to prove it.

I learned this the hard way, as it was my turn to get drinks and I had left my purse with Chop (taking my id and cash) and I had waited in line so long only to get turned away because I didn’t have a second form of id on me.

Wtf? Who made up this rule?

On the plus side, we went to Flemings for dinner and it was incredible.

Even nicer was coming home to find Chop had emails about jobs. 🙂

bad news comes in… twos?

Yesterday the oil company came and filled up our tank and left a $500 bill. Apparently they hadn’t come in six weeks (and the price of oil is insanely high) and we’ve managed to use around 150 gallons.

Yeah.

The heat was set at 65 degrees throughout the house, but now every room but the one we are in is at 55. And we’ll be using cold water for the dishwasher and the laundry, but still.

For even more fun? Chop got “let go” this morning from the company he’s worked at for over ten years. The company who less than 20 days ago gave him his yearly review and a five percent raise. Real nice. Six others lost their jobs too, and most of them were long-term people.

Anybody need a Web developer? lol

big plans gone awry

The Chop and I had big plans today. Granted, they involved sleeping in, then going to Atonement and eating Thai food, but they were big plans to us.

Sadly my websites got hacked again (this time by a Russian site of some kind) and I have spent most of my “day off” trying to fix them.

The Chop has also come down with some sort of cold nonsense, so in the end, the day has been spent with me working, Chop playing Madden on Wii and then me finally playing Zelda on Wii (SO much fun). Now he’s playing Zelda while I check and make sure all the sites are still active (they are, whee!).

We’re party people, lol.
