tapas

It’s pouring rain today. The sky is gray and cloudy, the sun is gone and the coworker keeps yelling… she does not like the rain.

I came home from last week’s excursion with six boxes of books… ahhh. (Yes people, that is love.) Unfortunately, I can’t seem to stop myself from reading—I have gratification issues. I was up until two this morning reading George R.R. Martin’s A Game of Thrones—it’s fantastic. (The man has excellent taste.) Typically I don’t read fantasy or science fiction, but I adore Tolkien, so Martin’s a good fit for me.

And it doesn’t hurt that the first four books of this series are already out in print—no waiting. 😉

Tidbits:
This absolutely would have happened at my school… Hartford police fines high school students for cursing… if they had caught us. 😉

Fascinating, in a grotesque way… Doctors in France have performed the world’s first partial face transplant.

Firefox 1.5 is out.

I’ve found the cheapest hotel in Midtown Manhattan… the Pickwick Arms Hotel—with Wi-Fi, iPod docking stations and an $89-a-night bill. Insane. (The coworker and I will be there in December—she has to go to a conference and I’m going to shop.) 🙂 🙂

ergh

The coworker is rolling on the floor.
We are kinda buzzed. No wait, she just yelled, and we are “VERY BUZZED.”

It was a long day. I made my mother cry, the coworker found out her fbuddy has a girlfriend who’s seven years younger, we really don’t like our job, she just yelled she has heartburn and I am sad ’cause I miss this guy…

Ahem.

We had some vodka, no wait, lots of vodka for lunch, needless to say.

grousing

Coming back to work, after almost a week off, sucks uge donkeyballs.

There’s way too much stuff to do, and the coworker and I would much rather be anywhere else.

Particularly when we’re facing emails from the Boss that he sent on Thanksgiving.

His home life must really be subpar.

hi there

Truly one of the most harrowing conversations you can ever have with your parents? Explain that you’re dating this guy you met online… and that you’ve driven several hundred miles to spend a week with him… bearing in mind that it was your sister who “shared” some information that led them to question me. And I don’t fancy lying.

Yeah. That was loads of fun.

I haven’t blogged in a few days… I’ve been remarkably busy. And I had no Internet access. So wen, here’s the public apology you deserve, seeing as how I harassed you for not blogging on your little excursion.. 😉

Thanksgiving went really well, I’ve come home with several boxes of books and plans to move back West. (At some point.)

🙂

happy thanksgiving!

Just a quick note to say hi and Happy Thanksgiving. Enjoy the holiday… we are. 😉

Oh, and just because it bugged us this morning… the number one piece of news this morning? On CNN Headline News? That Jessica and Nick broke up. Yeah. On CNN.

Because that’s just the most important thing ever.

still alive and kicking

The bad thing about hotels is that the walls are awfully thin.

We woke up this morning to the sound of someone else’s shower. It was incredibly loud and honest-to-god the longest shower I have ever heard anyone take. It just kept going. Rolling over, I asked if we should call 911 and say someone had fallen or drowned. After about 30 minutes the water turned off, and satisfied, we went back to sleep.

An hour or so later I got up to take a shower. And there was no water. At all. I attempted to force it to come on, reasoning that I just needed to yank harder. He logically assumed that the hotel had turned it off, and suggested I call the front desk and lo and behold, the water was turned off. Due to the room next to us (of the extended shower) having an overflowed tub—in turns out that the water in that shower wouldn’t turn off, so finally the guy in there called the hotel and they shut down the water for some of the rooms… ours being one of them.

We’re now situated in another room and I’m busily trying to get some work done. He’s napping, lol. Apparently he hasn’t been getting enough sleep. So sad.

always call ahead

I learned an important lesson today… always call ahead to make sure that the ONLY coffee shop in town is still open… and didn’t close six months before I arrived.

It was truly a disheartening lesson to learn this morning. 🙁

Other than that, I’m still here (I almost wasn’t this morning). And it’s going well.

🙂

deer can fly

If you’ve never experienced deer parts flying into your windshield while you’re going 80 on a two lane highway surrounded by trucks, you haven’t lived.

The mini road trip ended with a lovely little ::splat, goosh, splat::—and me not being able to turn on the heat in my Jeep for the last hour. If you’ve never had the joy of having a deer’s parts thrown at the front of your car, let me prepare you. The icky parts that don’t ::splat:: on your windshield end up lodged in your grill, and consequently, your entire car now smells like rotted, roasting deer. Oh. my. god. It’s foul people. If I wasn’t a vegetarian before… whoosh.

About ten minutes after the incident, a cook was on NPR talking about the different kinds of stuffing you can put in a turkey. When he said “venison sausage,” I started laughing so hard I hit my high beams and pissed off the car in front of me.

It’s a truly a miracle that I arrived, 9 hours and 570 miles later, completely unscathed.

My Jeep, however, seriously needs to be washed. There’s hair and goo—it’s revolting.

And before I forget… GOOD LUCK AUGIE! (He leaves for basic training tomorrow.) Come back alive so that I can continue to harass you. 🙂

November 18th, 2005

I just realized that if I didn’t post today, it would be the first day I hadn’t posted in a really long time.

But I’m really tired, lol, and I can’t think of anything interesting to share.

So let’s see.

We went to the main office today and it went well. There was Mexican food—yum.

I got another early morning phone call from Sawyer today—3:33AM. He wanted to know if I was coming home for Thanksgiving, lol.

I’m on the phone with my coworker. She’s a little crazy.

I’m going on a road trip of sorts tomorrow.

I’m a little stressed out.

642 pages

The book has now reached 642 pages… there are still three articles missing, so it’ll probably rise to about 700 by the time I’m through. It’s huge and monotonous—at least to me. I’ve been reading all of these articles for months, and while I’m a damn good copyeditor, it’s been tough to re-read all of these to find the tiny errors. Honestly, I shouldn’t have to put this thing together and edit it…

Fortunately all of these late nights are going to equal comp time for me… so next week I’m taking off a few days, plus the holiday, and going to Pennsylvania. I’ll probably only blog from there sporadically… seeing as how I’m going to be meeting someone and he says we’re going to be otherwise engaged. 😛

Tomorrow it’s up to the main office—oh the joy. I’m just waiting to hear that the Boss thinks there are some fatal “design errors” with this book. Sigh.

I can’t wait to run my own business.
