valium and viagra.. oh the spam

My cousing harassed me to blog this morning, lol, and the truth is, I’ve been meaning too. But I got sick on Friday and have been having a bit of a rough week.

Anyway, so King (the guy I adore working with at work) quit about a month ago and the boss hired a woman from his old company. Without looking for someone else. Because he is insane.

She turned out to be a huge pain in the ass (also, laughed like a hyena, hence her moniker) and Hyena “quit” two weeks ago. Whereupon the company begged King to do some freelance until we find someone.

So the day my boss said “post this ad on Craigslist,” a guy saw it, brought in his resume and the following morning arrived to do some contract work so they could try him out.

Everybody loves him, he’s incredibly nice (I finally met him yesterday), he knows what he’s doing, he’s a total nerd like me and sadly, we probably won’t get to keep him because they won’t meet his price. STUPID BOSSES!

He’s married with two kids and incredibly qualified, but my bosses are freaking misers and they won’t pay enough to get somebody good. Hence the insane turnover (we’ve hired and fired, um, I believe SIX people since I’ve worked there… anybody see a problem?).

The best part about him is that he is so incredibly mellow that I have decided to dub him Valium. Yesterday, after he answered the twelfth call of the hour with the same calm response, I told him he was like taking a Valium. He laughed (and he’s a deep belly laugher, where the entire face becomes a grin.. you know, the fun people).

I told the Chop that a) I’m sad they don’t live near us because he and his wife would become our best friends lol and b) that if new guy’s voice is my Valium, his voice is my Viagra. 😉

hehe.

first kiss

firstkiss.jpg

E met J at a wedding about two years ago. I distinctly remember the first few conversations we had about him, mainly because I wanted to make sure he wasn’t a jerk (as her previous guy turned out to be) and because we were both intrigued by his persistence.

Which, obviously, paid off.

On the other hand, before we headed out there I was very uncomfortable about them getting married. I’ve met him a couple of times, but not nearly enough to get a feel for his character and they’ve been dating barely two years.

I kept telling the Chop, “It’s too soon! Why are they jumping the gun?!”

I think his reply was, “sex,” which, considering their religion, does make sense.

After being there, meeting some of his friends (some nice, some assholes), meeting his family (brother and sister, both incredibly nice) and hearing that her brother completely approved (aside from the fact that they would be having sex, LOL), I became much more comfortable about the match.

That being said, I’m still a little sad (in a good way) that she’s married. And I think it’s because the door to our childhood slammed shut this weekend and I just wasn’t prepared.

a step ahead

When I was seven I met my best friend and we’ve stayed incredibly close our entire lives (granted, we aren’t exactly ancient, but still).

Typically we’ve managed to reach all of our major life milestones together… glasses, braces, first boyfriends, first kisses and final boyfriends. But today she took a big step and married a really nice guy.

And watching your closest friend in life walk down the aisle is one of the most incredible moments in life.

We’re heading home now. We’ve a five hour drive (since my dad is doing the driving) and then an entire day of flying to look forward to tomorrow. Possibly this will be the longest weekend ever.

wii wants to play

The Chop and I are now on the west coast, finally having our first actual vacation of the year.

Except for the whole wedding thing on Saturday, lol.

The trip was relatively uneventful. Our first flight was seriously delayed, and by the time we got to our connection, our seats had been reassigned. Which would be a problem, but they handed us two new tickets and we flew first class. Yeah baby.

Whilst the Chop enjoyed unlimited gin and tonics and a very attentive stewardess, I marvelled at a 3.6 oz Ben and Jerry’s container that they included with our meal. Has anyone else ever seen that? A mini, sealed B&J on a plane? Heaven.

Best things so far about being home: parents already went shopping and got all our favorites, mom has already handed out things I called ahead for from Costco, best pie ever from the cousin :D, seeing that my second cousins are actually growing up, hearing my dad say “I’m going to hurt you so bad” (lol, it’s hard to explain) and Wii bowling.

Yes, Wii bowling. It is the greatest, don’t knock it! I slaughtered my dad! And the Chop! 😀

Good times were had by all.

happy father’s day

Father’s Day for me consisted of 1) IKEA for three hours with J, 2) BBQ at J’s parents (where her dad proceeded to perfectly Dog Whisperer Reggie and it was ridiculous, lol) and 3) go fishing… for the first time… and catch five fish.

😀

Apparently I am never invited to go fishing again, seeing as how J and her dad only caught one fish apiece. 😉

The best part?

Coming home to find that the Porkchop and J’s sugar had finished putting together our new furniture pieces from IKEA.

Being in love means you never have to put together furniture again. And it’s awesome.

Fishes, in order of catching.. (by the last one, J was not interested in taking pictures anymore, LOL).

the UK definitely has talent

I stumbled across this on another blog, and it is amazing. This little 6-year-old is an incredible singer.

From the “Britain’s Got Talent” show, with Simon Cowell (who, incidentally, is stunned and in awe of this girl).

sample sale: three days only, get in now

It’s that time of year again… Kate Spade Sample Sale.

I was going to be good and only get one, but then the adorable Porkchop said eh why not when I asked if he thought two was too many. 😀 So I am getting two super cute new bags for less than the price of one normally.. yay.

The Chop is good like that. When we were on the Cape, I restrained myself from getting any art from the galleries (if you know Ptown, there are dozens). But the last morning we were there, I dropped him off to get coffee, circled around, and there he was, standing with coffee and a brown paper wrapped picture frame.

It’s hanging above me now and it’s quite lovely, so I can’t be too mad at him, even though we are supposed to be saving right now. (We’re going to visit his family, then out to the West Coast for a wedding, and let me tell you, tickets? Nightmare.)

Anyway, why are you still reading?! GO SHOP.

ah, the best of PTown

One of my favorite things about PTown is that it is run by the gay community, and if there is one thing I love more than coffee and vodka and Ben and Jerry’s Cinnamon Buns ice cream (oh dear god, it’s awesome), it’s the gays.

I adore them. They make the world better.

Anywho, so last night the Chop and I went into PTown around 8ish to get some dinner.

If you’ve ever been, you know that Commercial Street along the water is where all the cute little shops and restaurants and galleries and bars are, and also where everybody hangs out all day and night. It’s fantastic.

We were a little worried about finding a place to eat where Reggie wouldn’t be a problem, but PTown is for the gays and the gays love their pets, so it wasn’t a problem at all.

Walking back to the car, Regina ran into a new friend, a cute bulldog that was about her size. Her owner was a very fit and adorable gay man and he and I hit it off right away.

At one point I asked him if there was a good doggie daycare to leave her at so the boy and I could shop (the shopping here is the best), and he grabbed me around the shoulders, pulled me in and said to Chop, “Oh yeah? You two going ring shopping? Eh? Eh?”

Of course the two of us were highly entertained by this, whilst the Chop laughed, shook his head and said, “Oh boy.”

Good times. 😉

Sadly, I didn’t get his number and so my new BFF is lost to me. However, he did give us a good recommendation for a daycare, and so perhaps we will see him when we go shopping. 😀

eskimo kisses and notes to grandma

I hate having voicemails when I come in to work on Tuesdays, particularly when they are from the Friday before. It says on my extension to reach me via email, but do they ever email? Noooo, that would be way to easy.

So this morning I called back one woman (who bugged me at the conference, and who apparently will bug me forever) re: a change to her page on our virtual tradeshow site (she was emailed about this three weeks ago, but huh, funny thing, she never responded :P).

It went to her cellphone voicemail, where instead of just, “Hi, this is so-and-so, leave a message,” it said, “Hi, this is so-and-so, I can’t be reached right now, but let me leave you with an inspirational message. Today’s message comes from 1st Corinthians yada yada and it says yada yada yada.”

The woman used her voicemail system to launch a sneak religious attack on me!?! WTF? Also, her work phone? Come on now people.

Anyway, Reggie wanted to leave some notes for people…

Eskimo kiss

Yes, my bone
This is mine.
