bad news comes in… twos?

Yesterday the oil company came and filled up our tank and left a $500 bill. Apparently they hadn’t come in six weeks (and the price of oil is insanely high) and we’ve managed to use around 150 gallons.

Yeah.

The heat was set at 65 degrees throughout the house, but now every room but the one we are in is at 55. And we’ll be using cold water for the dishwasher and the laundry, but still.

For even more fun? Chop got “let go” this morning from the company he’s worked at for over ten years. The company who less than 20 days ago gave him his yearly review and a five percent raise. Real nice. Six others lost their jobs too, and most of them were long-term people.

Anybody need a Web developer? lol

and why not

My company websites got hit by malware again and for the past three days, that has been my entire life. Which sucks, because I don’t get overtime and I am WAY over my pay grade and my education level. Total nightmare.

For more fun, my sister and I were going to throw our parents a recommitment ceremony and when we told them this morning (assuming they’d want to prepare), they were less than enthused.

The best part was when they said we could do a triple wedding instead. My sister marries her boyfriend (who she lives with), I marry the Chop (who I live with) and they do the recommitment thing. Haha. In other words, what they would prefer for their anniversary present would be that their daughters would quit shaming them. Nice, eh?

Oh well, that just means I can save flight money and go somewhere awesome for vacation. I’m thinking Ireland or Paris. 🙂

2008, baby

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I have a raging cold. Sadly, I will be spending the holiday bundled on the couch, drink in hand, coughing away. Cheers. 😛

damn post office

I sent a 15lb box to my mom’s house on December 10, and have been waiting to hear from my mom that it arrived. It contained 90% of the presents for my immediate and extended family back home, seeing as how this year the Chop and I are going to visit his family.

Today my post office said they couldn’t help me to track down the package (even though I got insurance and therefore have a tracking number), but my mother’s post office said, “No problem, what’s the number.”

According to her post office, my box is still SITTING AT MY POST OFFICE.

I’m really hoping that’s wrong. I’m hoping I go into my PO tomorrow (before we have to fly out) and they tell me, oh, the package should be there today.

But I’m not that optimistic, and if it’s still there, I plan to open up a can of whoop ass and demand they overnight it.

I am so pissed right now, I can’t even tell you.

oh the weather outside is frightful

Saturday the Chop and I went shopping to get some last minute groceries and return a broken item to Target.. I won’t bore you with the details, but let’s just say Target less than two weeks before Christmas? Not good. No, no, no. The traffic, the insanity, the mounds of snow and ice… nightmare.

When we got home it was dark (winter sucks that way), and I was on the phone with a friend. Somehow, during the phone call, the insane dog desperately needing to pee and all the bags, we forgot to shut Chop’s trunk. Yeah. And it snowed and rain and the wind blew and the next morning it was bad, very, very bad.

I spent yesterday baking, which is typically a family activity and that made me a little sad, but feeding the burnt cookies (new oven, whoops) to a very willing dog made it a little better. 🙂 Chop delivered some to the landlord and some to our nice new neighbors who brought us fudge the other evening, and I am taking a plate to work… one that will be devoured in seconds, knowing them.

Today he went to NYC for work for four days. Of course the Amtrak station parking lot was full, so he ended up parking a mile away, hoofing it, missing the train and then learning his car might be towed. It’s a stick-shift and so I can’t get a taxi there, because I couldn’t drive it home, lol, and I can’t seem to find anyone to go with me, so that sucks. But fortunately he just had his year-end review and he’s getting a raise (again, the bastard… my job sucks), so he can just pay to get it out, lol.

My best friend sent me presents off Amazon this year (so smart) and so now I can watch Annie and Mary Poppins while Chop is gone. Yay for me. 🙂

We actually opened presents this weekend (it’s just easier when we are going out of town), and one of my surprise gifts was a Nintendo DS… does anyone have any good game recommendations? We have Brain Age, and I want Monopoly, lol, but there are SO many more and I need help!

pratchett news

This sucks.

Pratchett is one of my favorite authors, introduced to me a couple of years ago by grampa, and I think it’s just incredibly sad that such a great, prolific author would get early-onset Alzheimer’s.

He’s one of those authors who was good in the beginning and has gotten great over the lifetime of his books. He’s funny and engaging and if you are incredibly sick from a mystery illness, his books will make you laugh. I swear.

so bored, so very, very bored

I am bored. I am SO FREAKING BORED.

I can’t move for another 15 days. Half the house is packed, and I am on a cleaning (deep cleaning, really) strike until we move.

My job I do in literally two hours and then I am completely devoid of something interesting/useful to do for the next six. Which totally blows.

I don’t think you know boredom until your job is so boring you actually ask a coworker if they have something you can do.

Yeah. It’s that bad.

I mentioned the lack to my boss, whilst telling him if he and the two editors did this, this and that, I’d have something to do AND it’d be good for the company.

They’re all a little busy right now (wtf? two of them have had it on their list for over two months) was his response.

In other words, the editors are busy doing work and he’s busy being the wife of his relationship. Seriously. (I have rage, so I am venting.. deal.)

The CEO is pregnant (that’s his wife, he’s the CFO), so I know this will just get worse as the months pile on the pounds, so to speak. And that’s just really painful.

Constant boredom. Argh.

the waiting game

And it’s inevitable.. attaining perfection is a crowded road.

We heard back from the owners of the great house.

Apparently they’ve had “overwhelming” interest and they’ve “narrowed it down to just a few folks.” We’re “very high” on their list, so basically it’s just a waiting game.

I’m not at all surprised, although I was hoping everyone else would be awful and we would be the best and they’d call us today and say, “It’s yours.”

But I live in a fantasy world, with cotton candy meals and unicorns. It’s nice there. You don’t have to wait. Ever.

two days, two calls, all bad news

My mom called. Bon Bon probably won’t make it to Thanksgiving, it looks like she’s in total renal failure. 🙁

I was thinking about trying to head out there in the next couple of weeks, just for a few days, but…

The realtor called. We have to move in six weeks, for December 1.

Technically they gave us until Christmas, but we’re heading to the Porkchop’s for Christmas and really, who wants to be moving right before heading out of town for Christmas? Not us.

Apparently the sale is conditional on us moving by the end of December… the new owners want to renovate and expand (don’t think they’ll be allowed to, but whatever).

Our lease states that either one of us can cancel the lease with 60 days of notice, so technically we have no recourse. And she’s offering us a month’s rent to move by then, so what the hell.

Unfortunately this means we have to find a place, pack and hire movers in six weeks. And the cash hit we’ll be taking right before Christmas won’t be a picnic either.

Not the greatest weekend.

i hate the peoples

For two days now we’ve had realtors bring people to the house, and let me just say, I hate this realtor. Maybe it’s just us, but the woman seems very cloying and irritating.

She says stupid things like, “Oh you shouldn’t worry too much, the people who are coming by only want this for a summer place.”

Wtf? I shouldn’t worry? I STILL HAVE TO MOVE YOU BITCH.

“I didn’t realize you both worked from home. What a great location, with the waterviews, and such.”

Well IT WAS, WTF?!

The best thing we’ve done so far is make sure I’m out of the house when they show up. I take Reggie and we go get coffee and stay away for 15 minutes while the Chop shows them inside.

Today, unfortunately, I arrived back in 20 minutes and they were still inside the house.. and I got to watch the woman open my oven and fridge and dishwasher and say how clean it was (to which I wanted to say, yeah, you’re lucky I moved in, otherwise that oven would be nasty).

Then she noticed the cd unit, asked if it was built-in and when Chop said, nope, from IKEA, she looked around and say, “Oh it’s all an IKEA house.”

Now, in general, I’m OK with he quantity of IKEA stuff we have. Let’s see, three wardrobes, an entertainment unit and a CD thing… however, the way she said it really grated on my nerves.

I wanted to say, “Yeah, I’m sorry, I’m sure you don’t shop at IKEA, Miss Wearing Prada Shoes and Designer Jeans, but jesus, I live here, and I am standing two feet from you.. DID YOU NEVER LEARN MANNERS?!”

I need a drink.
