raise please!

When the Chop and I first moved in together, I was still unemployed following my departure from the job from hell. I remember being irritated that I had nothing really to do, and he was lucky to still have a regular job.

The role reversal is odd. And it’s only been one day.

Also, he makes more money getting unemployment (hell yeah we filed for that… damages the old boss) than I do. Problem? Yes, I think so.

go celtics!

For his birthday I got the Chop floor seats to the Celtics game this evening. Surprisingly, it was loads of fun and the game came down to the last seconds with the Celtics beating the Timberwolves 87-86.

The most interesting part of the evening, however, was the liquor purchasing policy. If you have a MA id and are over 21, you are fine. If you have an out-of-state id you have to be over 25. HOWEVER, if you are between 25 and 30, you have to have a second form of id to prove it.

I learned this the hard way, as it was my turn to get drinks and I had left my purse with Chop (taking my id and cash) and I had waited in line so long only to get turned away because I didn’t have a second form of id on me.

Wtf? Who made up this rule?

On the plus side, we went to Flemings for dinner and it was incredible.

Even nicer was coming home to find Chop had emails about jobs. 🙂

bad news comes in… twos?

Yesterday the oil company came and filled up our tank and left a $500 bill. Apparently they hadn’t come in six weeks (and the price of oil is insanely high) and we’ve managed to use around 150 gallons.

Yeah.

The heat was set at 65 degrees throughout the house, but now every room but the one we are in is at 55. And we’ll be using cold water for the dishwasher and the laundry, but still.

For even more fun? Chop got “let go” this morning from the company he’s worked at for over ten years. The company who less than 20 days ago gave him his yearly review and a five percent raise. Real nice. Six others lost their jobs too, and most of them were long-term people.

Anybody need a Web developer? lol

big plans gone awry

The Chop and I had big plans today. Granted, they involved sleeping in, then going to Atonement and eating Thai food, but they were big plans to us.

Sadly my websites got hacked again (this time by a Russian site of some kind) and I have spent most of my “day off” trying to fix them.

The Chop has also come down with some sort of cold nonsense, so in the end, the day has been spent with me working, Chop playing Madden on Wii and then me finally playing Zelda on Wii (SO much fun). Now he’s playing Zelda while I check and make sure all the sites are still active (they are, whee!).

We’re party people, lol.

and why not

My company websites got hit by malware again and for the past three days, that has been my entire life. Which sucks, because I don’t get overtime and I am WAY over my pay grade and my education level. Total nightmare.

For more fun, my sister and I were going to throw our parents a recommitment ceremony and when we told them this morning (assuming they’d want to prepare), they were less than enthused.

The best part was when they said we could do a triple wedding instead. My sister marries her boyfriend (who she lives with), I marry the Chop (who I live with) and they do the recommitment thing. Haha. In other words, what they would prefer for their anniversary present would be that their daughters would quit shaming them. Nice, eh?

Oh well, that just means I can save flight money and go somewhere awesome for vacation. I’m thinking Ireland or Paris. 🙂

google macworld

Yet another awesome Google thing. Google, CALL ME!

Macworld debuted some awesome stuff… the new thin Macbook and the upgrade for the iPod Touch are my two favorites right now. Mail, Notes, etc., so nice. Exactly what I was missing. 🙂

can insulation kill you?

Is gross, old insulation bad for you? We used masks, and gloves, and we showered immediately after, but cleaning the two bags full of fallen insulation out of the attic was disgusting. Also, we both bumped our heads pretty severely.

Then the dog had diarrhea, rapidly followed by the cat (who got a bath) and during some picture-hanging that we had neglected in the bedroom, Chop smashed his finger and his toe.

It was a really, really long day, lol.

It’s been snowing here since last night, which is good in the sense that it’s winter and we’d like to not have global warming, but bad in the sense that it’s cold, still snowing and Chop is supposed to head to NYC for work tomorrow.

Which means I’m on dog duty. In the snow. And I hate that.

rabbids

Last night we went out to dinner with some friends, and after learning that they also have a Wii, ended up back here afterwards, drinking and battling rabbids.

It turns out playing Wii against a girl is SO much nicer than playing against Chop, who regularly kicks my ass. At least with another girl I have a chance in hell, lol. And he probably prefers playing against a guy occasionally, because it’s actually competition. 😛

We have to clean the attic space out today, and neither of us is thrilled. It’s a huge space, but it has some torn-down insulation on parts of the floor, so before we store in there, I wanted to clean it out.

We’ll be using masks and gloves, but if I don’t blog about the grossness later, somebody send a search party.

go see juno!

Have you seen Juno? If not, you should. It’s awesome. And not just because I love Allison Janey. The writing is really witty and while not completely believable, the characters are hysterical.

The Wii came today (Christmas present) and Chop and I spent the whole day staring at the box, trying to work. Amazingly it’s still unopened, as he has sports shows we “watch” starting at 5.

It feels like spring here.. is anyone else having that problem? The weather was a high of 56 degrees, the sun was shining and a freaking fly somehow got in the house. A fly. In January. The weather is messed up.

ah, the new year

The DS? Awesome.

The Zelda Phantom Hourglass game? Totally awesome. (The Chop and I are fighting over who gets to play, lol.)

Obama’s taken Iowa! Woot! He is my only hope for getting the Republicans out of office.

The writer’s strike is pissing. me. off. Just give them what they want and bring back the good TV! I like reality TV if it’s good, but we’re now at the dredges of reality TV.. the crap that got veto’d at the beginning of the season but is now back because that is ALL THEY HAVE.

So annoying.

In other news, I am less sick, the weather here is so cold I refuse to go outside and some of my company’s websites got hacked while I was on vacation, so it’s been real fun going back to work.

How’s 2008 working out for ya’ll?
