’tis better to have…

My parents called me a little while ago. Their flight is delayed out of Seattle due to bad weather at their connecting airport: Philadelphia. It’s entirely possible that a) they might make their connection and everything will be dandy, b) they miss their connection and catch another flight later or c) they can’t get out until tomorrow, so they stay there overnight and I meet them in Philly.

Because, remember, we are taking a road trip to the middle of nowhere PA. And it was supposed to start tomorrow morning.

I still haven’t been able to shake the crazy dreams, or the headaches for that matter. And then last night I didn’t get to sleep until about 2AM. Fortunately, Bravo is running a West Wing Season Six marathon continuously… ahhhh. 🙂 It’s quite possible, I suppose, that I just wanted to stay up and watch. 😛

I do think the dreams are related to my parents coming to visit. I subscribe to the philosophy that it’s better to have never had, than to have had and lost. It’s much easier to live when you don’t know what you’re missing, in other words.

I love that my parents are coming, but every time they do, I’m reminded of how painful it is to live so far away. It’s one of the reasons I so rarely go home. Preventative medicine, shall we say.

And I know all of you will say “’tis better to have loved and lost, than to never have loved at all,” and I think that’s true for some… just not for me.

Oh, and Ellie’s doing fine. 🙂

  15. Hey you,

The best thing I reckon is to not let anything get in the way of enjoying their company when they arrive. The nice thing about living a distance away from your parents is always being reminded of just how much you love them… which doesn’t always seem to be the case when you’re closer to them.

I totally understand what you describe… taking that kind of decision is full of consequences that never really go away.

    Hope you’re doing alright, babe.

  16. It’s so serious over here today. Yesterday we were talking about me and English going toe to toe in a vat of strawberry Jell-O.

    What happened here, people?

    Comment by Grampa — October 13, 2005 @ 4:01 pm

  17. Graham: I’m good. 🙂

Grampa… so sorry, my fault. 😛

  18. oh and speaking of English, he said he was originally going to say “I will have to go take out my frustration by wrestling some yank in a pool of strawberry jelly whilst wearing nothing but my tightie whities” ah yes. that’s an image that will haunt me for the rest of my days.

  21. see that’s the british/american translation difference. he calls his boxer briefs ‘tightie whities’ but he calls what we know as tightie whities ‘y-fronts’ so yea, hehehe, they could share undies and THEN get in the kiddie pool full of jello!!!!!!

    Comment by wendykat — October 13, 2005 @ 8:39 pm

  22. but before they do that, i need to buy a camcorder…

  32. to look parisian do we have to drop 100 pounds, wear giant sunglasses, drink red wine, and hold our noses high in the air? or is that a stereotype?

    Comment by wendykat — October 13, 2005 @ 9:32 pm
