watching nip/tuck season premiere

The coworker, the single gal and I share a deep love for this show, as disturbing as it may be.

Anywho, more importantly… they showed the trailer for Rent. Which I have seen because, well, I can’t freaking wait for this movie to come out—but anyway, I really, really can’t wait now. Phenomenal musical, just damn phenomenal.

AND, the main reason I decided to mention all of this.. apparently someone is turning Memoirs of a Geisha (outstanding book) into a movie?! Where have I been? They’re showing that trailer next.

OK: Shit, it’s produced by Rob Marshall (Chicago) and stars Ziyi Zhang as Sayuri and Ken Watanabe as The Chairman.

Now, here’s the thing. If they kill this book, I will flip my lid. This book is remarkable and while yes, it’s always tough to turn a book into a movie, it has been done with some success before.

I’m all psyched now. Can’t wait to see it. 🙂

  1. Very very few books have ever made successful movies, but the ones that do are fantastic! But frankly, I loved that book way too much to rish seeing the movie… but who knows, I’ve caved before.

    a movie! how ’bout that!

  2. Hmmmm. we are on dangerous ground. I loved that book too and was a bit perturbed when it was reported that Madonna (Still love you though, Mrs Ritchie) was looking to monopolise the movie. I’m still a little unsure, even without the Madonna participation but I am quite sure that my curiosity will get the better of me.

Same as this new Pride & prejudice nonsense.

Ughhhh! Why am I so weak?

  3. That series is rather disturbing and completely addictive at the same time…
So they show movie trailers on TV in the US? Ah, those little differences…

  4. i have doubts that the movie will do justice to the book. only because the book was perfect, and i’m sure all our imaginations will not be matched by a movie… but who knows. perhaps they’ll give the book it’s due.

  6. There are only 2 books that come to mind that have been successfuly interpreted on the screen – A Clockwork Orange and ONe Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. But that’s just in my own humber opinion, of course.

  7. Kerry—I know! But I have hope. And A Clockwork Orange was awesome. 🙂

Ms. Mac.. I cannot wait to see the new Pride and Prejudice. 🙂 🙂 But what’s this nonsense about Madonna and Memoirs?!

It’s insanely addictive Anne. You guys don’t have movie trailers on TV over there? How come?

    Wendy—we have hope. Hope. Hope.

LOL JB… um. I’ll buy you the DVD. 😉

  9. Okay, pride and prejudice…Keira knightley need i say more. Hell i would sit through l’Auberge Espagnole if it starred Kiera knightley. and for the record, nicholas sparks books turned into movies…love them!

  10. Because TV and cinema are competing media? I’ve no idea, actually.

  15. Just to clarify, not long after I read Memoirs of A Geisha it was reported that madonna was looking to have the movie made with herself in the spotlight. It was around the time that she started wearing all the japanese garb and did the video where she danced with bags of water, remember?

Thankfully, she has nothing to do with it now. I hope.

But still, I do love you Madge, but would rather see you singing Holiday and Ray of Light on stage than see you try to act. And you know, I went to see Swept Away. Yes, it was me!

    Comment by ms. mac — September 21, 2005 @ 12:07 pm

  16. Ah I see now. OK.. I have to say, thank god she isn’t, because she’s, y’know, not Japanese. 😛

But yes, singing and such is fine—she needs to stay away from the movies. 🙂 But then again, what singer doesn’t?

  17. What I’d like to know is who told Madonna that she’s a great actress anyway? And anyway, even if she WAS Japanese, she’s in her mid-40’s! I’d be very interested to learn how she thought she would pull off turning herself into a young Japanese girl. Very interested indeed.

…don’t even get me started on that J-lo person! ugh!

    Comment by Kerry — September 21, 2005 @ 1:33 pm

  18. she’s also not english but she likes to affect an english accent… so *shrug* i wouldn’t be surprised to see her try to be a geisha…

    Comment by wendykat — September 21, 2005 @ 3:06 pm

  19. Oh god. No JLo please. PLEASE.

That English accent is just atrocious. Make it stop.

    Comment by the insider — September 21, 2005 @ 3:26 pm

  20. at least Madonna’s fake english accent is better then the one Kevin Costner tried to use in the Robin Hood movie way way back… that was very sad.

  21. Ugh, yeah, that was bad.
