September 12th, 2005crunchy or smooth?
One of my favorite things to have for breakfast is peanut butter and banana toast. It’s one of my dad’s favorite things to eat and he’s been feeding it to my sister and I since we were babies—well, the peanut butter at least. He eats peanut butter right off the spoon, and when my sister was a baby, he fed it to her that way. Apparently I was a little less enthralled by that concept, so I stuck to the toast.
Moving along. Anyway, so last night I had a discussion with a good friend of mine regarding which was better: creamy peanut butter or crunchy. Mind you, he also refrigerates his ketchup. Sigh. Fortunately we came to the decision that if we ever decided to hook up, we’d buy two bottles of ketchup. One for the fridge, one for the pantry. (Compromise—the bedrock of our relationship. :P) I don’t remember how we got to peanut butter, but he’s a crunchy fan and I prefer smooth.
Fortunately, our kids (if again) will eat non-refrigerated ketchup and creamy peanut butter. Why, you ask?
‘Cause momma’s always right.
Seeing as how the ketchup question sparked such a debate (yeah right, all of you loonies refrigerate—:P)…. what say you? Creamy or crunchy?

Creamy is better. Although now I only buy the natural stuff when I found out what they put in the processed stuff.

Creamy, definately! much easier to spread…and I dont want to know what they put in the processed stuff because i like it way too much

See, this is what I like to hear. CONSENSUS.
Re: the natural stuff… it’s good, but I hate when it separates. Gag.
Peter Pan is the best brand. 🙂

Crunchy.
Nah, kidding. Creamy.
Actually, I don’t eat peanut butter, so I don’t care one way or the other, but I really wanted to comment.
Comment by Anne — September 12, 2005 @ 11:01 am
LOL. 🙂 You don’t eat peanut butter?! Ever?
Comment by the insider — September 12, 2005 @ 11:05 am
Hardly. I ate some when I was in Oz and in Scotland; never in France. But I hereby swear to have some once a month if I get a job in the US. How’s that for dedication and self-sacrifice?
Comment by Anne — September 12, 2005 @ 11:17 am
Such a sacrifice.. way to take one for the good of the people. 😉 lol
Once you’re over here, trust me, you’ll find far more intriguing things to have once a month than peanut butter. 🙂
Comment by the insider — September 12, 2005 @ 11:22 am
Mmmmmmmm….. Creamy! for sure!
It sits on your toast, looking all shiny and tasty, just inviting you to eat it.
Crunchy has its place, but not on your breakfast toast.
Comment by ms. mac — September 12, 2005 @ 12:09 pm
So is the debate about the peanut butter just on the breakfast toast, or, is this a battle of epic proportions for the souls of jars of crunchy peanut butter everywhere?
And Peter Pan? So when did you become a corporate shill and start hawking the products. I, for one, refuse to be your puppet on this one. I’m going to let reason decide my peanut butter brand choice. I’ll watch TV and whoever has the best commercials, wins.
Comment by Grampa — September 12, 2005 @ 12:14 pm
Ms. Mac—where, pray tell, is that place? (Yay! on the creamy 🙂 )
It’s a battle of epic proportions Grampa. We are now debating the fate of peanut butter lovers everywhere.
And moi? A corporate shill? 😛 You can take that up with my mom. She declared, when I was but a young child, that Peter Pan Peanut Butter was the best—and I never disagree with my mom.
Watch TV.. 😛 In that case, Jif wins. Hands down.

Your mom had obviously been co-opted by the Man.
Comment by Grampa — September 12, 2005 @ 12:39 pm
That should read been co-opted. Pardon me, its early here.
Comment by Grampa — September 12, 2005 @ 12:40 pm
Co-opted by the Man? Who is this “Man?”
And I corrected it. 😉 You’re cute.
Comment by the insider — September 12, 2005 @ 12:48 pm
The Man is the personification of the Corporate/Industrial propaganda complex which convinces consumers that one thing is better that the other based upon the name on the label.
There are many facets to the Man, but this is the one that seems to have co-opted your mother, and you by extension, to be a Peter Pan corporate shill.

The place for crunchy peanut butter has to be in a satay sauce recipe.
Comment by ms. mac — September 12, 2005 @ 1:33 pm
I take it you’ve never tried Reeses peanut butter. It knocks the leotards off of Peter Pan.
Comment by The Guest — September 12, 2005 @ 1:40 pm
OK, first—Grampa. Bite me. 😛
Ms. Mac—Interesting. I tend to like my satay sauce smooth, but I shall have to try it with crunchy.
And yes, guest, I have, but no, Peter Pan is still the best.

Have any of you ever seen the Saturday Night Live skit “Black History Minute” with Eddie Murphy on George Washington Carver’s invention of peanut butter?

Hysterical.. that makes so much sense.
Alright Grampa—peanut butter brand of choice. Let’s hear it. Corporate shill away.
Comment by the insider — September 12, 2005 @ 1:59 pm
I subscribe to no particular brand. As long as there are giant hunks of peanuts in there.
Comment by Grampa — September 12, 2005 @ 2:07 pm
😛
Peter Pan makes crunchy, too… 😉
Comment by the insider — September 12, 2005 @ 2:11 pm
As you wish, Tinkerbell.
Comment by Grampa — September 12, 2005 @ 2:13 pm
I’m going to let that slide.. but ONLY because you began the sentence correctly.
😛

I guess I prefer smooth – although I won’t say no to cruchy either (preferred brand is Kraft).
…as for refrigerated ketchup, I had a roommate who did that too. weirdo’s.
Comment by Kerry — September 12, 2005 @ 2:48 pm
Thank god someone agrees with me on the damn ketchup. 🙂
Kraft—eh, not bad. As long as it’s creamy.
I so win this battle. 🙂 🙂

I don’t even think you can get Peter Pan pb on my side of the border. I remember seeing commercials for it when I was a kid, but nothing in years and years…
Comment by Kerry — September 12, 2005 @ 3:57 pm
Frenzy loves me some crunchy.
Comment by The Walking Frenzy — September 12, 2005 @ 11:43 pm
Having done an intense and lengthy taste test comparison, I have decided, not without much difficulty, that crunchy is the better of the two.
Comment by Onion Man — September 12, 2005 @ 11:44 pm
Ay, ye bonnie lass, us men be liken the crunchy.
Comment by Celtic Kilt Man — September 12, 2005 @ 11:45 pm
Kerry, I will send you some.
TWF, OM and CKM—beating number 7, baby, beating number 7.
Comment by the insider — September 12, 2005 @ 11:48 pm
Pardon me. Number EIGHT.
Comment by the insider — September 12, 2005 @ 11:51 pm
lol… i’m not sure if PB would make it across the border – could be considered too delicious! 😉
Comment by Kerry — September 13, 2005 @ 10:41 am
🙂 I used to work at a place that had organic cocoa shipped in from Canada. Without fail, every damn time the guards stabbed the boxes and cocoa was spilled all over the UPS trucks. Did they think it was coca? We don’t know. LOL
Comment by the insider — September 13, 2005 @ 11:18 am
crunchy or creamy, it depends on my mood, but always organic natural kind. i like crunchy for making thai peanut dipping sauce, and every once in a while, creamy for sucking it off my fingers. mmmmm. peanut-y goodness.
