road tripping to new hampshire

You’d think there wouldn’t be that much to say about road tripping to New Hampshire. In fact, in my opinion, it’s not really a road trip if it takes less than three hours, so technically it was more of a scenic drive. Very, very scenic.

I was less than an hour from my destination, a blues festival in Portsmouth, when a jaunty little roadster was clipped by an SUV right in front of me. Being the nice (read: stupid and dumb) person I am, I pulled over (along with the car to our left) to see if everyone was alright. They were.. but the cars were not. The roadster, to put it mildly, had suffered some pretty severe damage and honestly, I was surprised that the couple inside weren’t injured. The SUV had a broken headlight and something else that involved the grill (I think). I said, “OK, I’ll just take off then.. glad everyone’s fine.”

A “Nooooooo” comes from behind. I turn.

The passenger of the roadster, looking particularly frazzled, informed me that as a witness, I had to stay and talk to the cops. I told her I didn’t think that was necessary and I was kinda running late, sooo….

Yeah.

Apparently I lack the necessary skill to look a 60-year-old woman in the eye and say, “No, I am leaving now, thank you very much. I do not care about your car or who’s fault it was, I have plans.”

So I stayed. And I talked to the highway patrol (not too bad and uniform-wearing, so that’s a plus) and then, two hours later, I was on my merry way.

The festival was incredible, Amos Lee rocked (you have to see this guy live—good god, I want to put him in my pocket and carry him around with me to play all the time) and on the way home, I made a pitstop at Trader Joe’s for sushi and tofu/spinach egg rolls (don’t knock ’em, they will rock your world).

Now I am home. I have spent the better part of the day with way too many people, so I am happily ensconced with a glass of Pinot Grigio, an independent film P.S. and Prague, an excellent novel I just started. Yes, I can read and watch a movie at the same time—envy me. 😛

  2. It’s about five American expats who moved to Budapest to.. well, find themselves. It’s quite brilliant, actually.

You’d like it. And the movie.. maybe. No catharsis.
