blech

After a week of gray, overcast and sometimes drizzly weather, today was the first day of sun. And it was glorious. The Peanut was beyond excited to go to the park and getting away from the sad sack dog made the Chop and I immeasurably happy.

This is really the one reason I will never move back to the Pacific Northwest. It rains so goddamn much that people literally want to kill themselves. No thanks, all set.

squints

The Peanut has, of late, begun to realize just how funny he can be. It’s dangerous. Usually he just mimics our faces, but now he’s starting to come up with his own.

undeniable: my mom is the best

I Skype my mom every day. It’s always entertaining and I like helping the Peanut know her. She’s currently emptying their garage and attic of stuff, and so has taken to showing me boxes of my stuff over the computer. Artwork, schoolwork, stuffed animals… and today, all the cool hats I made in grade school.

And she modeled them. 🙂

qualification

The Peanut had his qualification appointment for early intervention today. Four women showed up, played with him, talked with us, watched him eat and after two hours presented us with their recommendation.

Both the Chop and I have talkative families who love food, so I never really considered that our kid would have any sort of speech or feeding delay. When he wasn’t that interested in other foods, we just assumed he was picky – the Chop is picky – and when he refused to eat things, we just assumed he was strong-willed (which he is, lol).

He tested above his age for social, motor and cognitive skills, but qualified for the program with his adaptive and communication skills… ie, food and words. We wanted him to qualify, because the program looks awesome – if the women who showed up today are any indication – but it’s still a tough pill to swallow.

eight. freaking. weeks.

Regina has two torn ligaments and a significant meniscal tear, according to her new orthopedic surgeon. Her surgery next Monday will involve her being shaved, sedated and then kept overnight. Once she comes homes, she has to be kept mostly immobile for eight long weeks.

Eight weeks of keeping the Peanut and her apart = eight weeks of hell.

matching

The Peanut is picking up some of the mannerisms of the Porkchop, something I find hilarious – and adorable. I can see them in 10 years, sitting the same way, telling jokes the same way and most definitely, still walking the same way.

always answer your phone

My mom messaged me at 11PM to say she couldn’t find my dad – he wasn’t answering his phone or email, etc. Next thing I know my mom, sister and I are on a Skype video call, debating how to track him down. He’s up at their new town by himself while my mom finishes packing them up for the move… and she hadn’t heard from him in seven hours.

One thing about my dad is that he ALWAYS answers his phone. If he’s sleeping, working, etc., he always picks up. I’ve requested sleepover permission when he was operating and woken him from a dead sleep at 3AM because I was sick – it’s a constant, the phone gets answered.

I called his new job… he wasn’t there, and he wasn’t on call. So my mom called his landlord (he’s renting until they finish the move), and he headed over to check. Then I called his job back to see what his extension was (perhaps he was in his office working) and she informed me that my uncle had called and they were paging him and going to send the cops for a welfare check.

The key word here is “paging.” None of us knew they’d issued him a pager.

Thirty minutes after I was brought in to this debacle, my dad texted my sister and called my mom. He’d gotten the page.. his phone had died (it’s new and he’s still figuring it out) and he’d been working on his work computer, so he hadn’t seen his emails. Sigh.

Much hilarity ensued, particularly when we told him his brother had called the cops. And I uh, accidentally mentioned his gun on a voicemail I left at his office… oopsie.

The Porkchop was warning off my sister’s boyfriend… stay away from these women. They will NEVER leave you alone!

😀

1,001

Yesterday was my 1,000th post, something I didn’t realize until I logged in today. Pretty crazy.

One of the Peanut’s favorite things to do is climb on the couch, and then run back and forth. His absolute favorite thing is when I tell him, very sternly, to SIT. He giggles maniacally and continues his sprinting. I sit him down, he laughs, gets back up, and we repeat the whole thing. Fifteen or twenty times, lol.

boo and yay and ugh

The evil house has struck again. Our dog stumbled playing frisbee and ruptured her cranial cruciate ligament in her knee. We have to call an orthopedic surgeon on Monday — she’s currently high on pain meds — and then we’ll end up shelling out around $3K for surgery. Ugh.

The bummer is that we were having a fantastic day. The Peanut decided to feed himself yogurt from a spoon and ate Rice Chex and Cheerios (only a few, and eaten individually – but PROGRESS!).
