in case it wasn’t clear… we’re engaged!

So the Chop proposed Friday night (and yes, I said yes, lol), and while normally I’d be happy as a clam, my parents were not as enthused as I would’ve preferred

Instead, my parents gave me a bit of grief because the Chop didn’t ask permission for my hand—I should note that I find this practice archaic and told him he didn’t have too, and in fact, I’d prefer if he didn’t. Unfortunately do to that, my parents were, according to them, “very surprised.” Which I also find odd, as we’ve been dating for two years and have mentioned several times we planned to marry.

Whatever. Friends, my cousin and his relatives were very happy and congratulatory, so I am holding on to that, and ignoring the less-than-heartfelt congrats from the parents. Figures anyway, lol.

It’s verrrrrry shiny… 🙂 That solves a lot of problems, lol.

This is possibly the cutest thing in the world. You must look at the slideshow.

Chop says I can’t have one though. So mean. 😛

You KNOW you want one.

hell to the no

I SWEAR TO GOD: if McCain wins, I will leave the country.

No ifs, ands or buts. I’m out if he’s in.

on the vice presidential debates

My Facebook status, as the night progressed…

Me: is so totally enjoying the VP “debate”… vodka helps. 9:54pm

Me: is wondering, how many times was Palin supposed to say “Maverick” tonight? Going on 10, by my count… 9:59pm

Friend comment: at 10:10pm October 2
How many times has she refused to answer a question by talking about her energy policies instead? I’ve counted four…

Me comment: at 10:12pm October 2
At least. If we were voting on the ability to never answer the actual question, she’d win by a landslide.

Friend comment: at 10:46pm October 2
How can you not see how intertwined the banruptcy reform act and energy policy are? Please read sarcasm into my words.

Friend comment: at 10:52pm October 2
I’m a real maverick at reading sarcasm. 😛

Annnnd the number of people who are getting a thesaurus in the mail climbs…. :p

Friend comment: at 11:10pm October 2
Thesauri are for elitists!

Friend comment: at 11:43pm October 2
The great maverick, reformer, Stander-upper-to-Washington-insider-politics that is McCain would call a thesaurus a dictionary because that’s how little he cares about winning a miss congeniality contest on the hill. Sorry I should have said he doesn’t care about “winnin” that extra g just takes away from the folksy tone I was trying to convey.

Me: a team of mavericks now! Isn’t that a conflicting statement? 10:13pm

Friend comment: at 2:16pm October 3
good point! if everyone conformed to maverick status, technically the concept of maverick would cease to exist.

Me: omg—she did a shout out. Also, defective yeti is doing a live blog. Hilarious: http://www.defectiveyeti.com/. 10:16pm

Me: .. shit maverick twice in what, three sentences? 10:25pm

Me: aww Biden, maverick EIGHT times in under a minute? Sigh. Everybody get a thesaurus. 10:27pm

Me: no matter where she is in regards to a microphone, I can hear her voice. It pains me. 10:37pm

typeracer = new crack

I just found TypeRacer, and let me tell you, it’s crack for nerds like me.

You race other people by typing paragraphs… the higher your WPM, the more races you win.

Like I said, crack, lol.

the swell season

The Chop and I just got back from seeing the Swell Season (Glen Hansard, Marketa Irglova, backed by The Frames—did the movie Once) in Boston and they were completely incredible. If they come anywhere near you, go and see them, you will not regret it.

The group had gone for a walk before they started, happened upon a busker, got to chatting with him and found out he would be attending—so Hansard called him up on stage and he sang, played harmonica and Hansard’s own guiter. He was totally thrilled and incredibly good—he made sure to plug his website, so there’s a shout-out. 🙂

Again, if the Swell Season comes to town, GO SEE THEM.

They’re playing in Belfast on my birthday and I’m still trying to figure out how to convince Chop to take me. 😀

why I love vermont, part 2

Montpelier is possibly the most awesome capital in the country. It’s small, quaint, quiet, clean, cute and nice. Literally, the entire place is like that. Chop and I didn’t get to spend too much time there as we got in late Friday night and left early Sunday, but I’ve been there before and this visit only reinforced my deep abiding love.

Most of the shops are unique (i.e., no chains)—this is actually the only state capital that doesn’t have a McDonald’s—and the restaurants and cafes are all locally owned and run. The weekend farmer’s market was packed with local produce and other goodies (Pakistani food booth anyone? samosas? artisan cheese?) and people. Granted some of the people needed a shower and a shave (kinda sorta hippieville), but everyone was very pleasant. Even their dogs were quiet and friendly.

If the Chop and I could find work up there (incredibly low cost of living = not a lot of high paying tech jobs), I’d move in a heartbeat.

And if by some sort of insanity the Republicans take the White House, that’s where we’re going. They wanted to secede at one point, so we figure they’re close enough to wanting to be Canada, to be Canada. 😀
