yay and yay

The Chop’s sister got engaged yesterday. We’re quite excited, as her fiancee is really an awesome guy… and this means Ollie might get cousins near his age! Granted they live on the other side of the country, but still, near his age.

It also doesn’t hurt that her fiancee is a drummer who plays in some pretty famous bands. I’m looking forward to meeting celebrities at their wedding next year, hehehe.

an apple a day

One of the Peanut’s favorite things to do is play on our bed. Especially in the morning when one of us is trying to sleep… the Porkchop is much better about keeping him out of the bedroom when it’s my turn to sleep in (he just loves his Daddy so much, I can’t keep him out!). He loves to stack his toys up there, sitting snuggled next to the dog, sorting puzzle pieces or blocks into separate piles.

And of course the minute I post about the Peanut being a picky eater he goes and decides to bite into an apple. Three bites and he was done, but we were suitably impressed.

needing/getting by ok go

I came across this video a week ago, and showed it to the Peanut, who promptly fell in love. Today he crawled up onto the couch next to me and we watched it again. Music and cars? Magic!

to the sea, to the sea

We saw a pod of whales right off the coast yesterday, playing less than 100 yards off the shore. The Chop and I were impressed, but the Peanut only had eyes for the waves. We spent most of the time on the beach pulling him back, carrying him up the beach and letting him walk determinedly right back to the edge, before swooping him back again.

We took a giant container of bubbles (something he loves), thinking he’d want to run after them – no dice. The siren song of water was all he heard. πŸ™‚

happy day for love

Valentine’s Day is one of those fun holidays where I get to make cards (seven this year, fun!) and eat sugar. What’s not to love?

engaged workaholic

Today is the birthday of my super cute, adorably awesome husband. So we decided to decamp to the tip of the Cape for a couple of days. The weather is gorgeous (40s, but sunny and no wind), the town is lovely as always and the Peanut thinks the ocean is awesome.

Plus, as it turns out, I’m an engaged workaholic. Finally, a title that fits perfectly. πŸ˜€

stupid sd card

For the past few months my phone has been claiming my SD card is full and suddenly refusing to take pictures. So I scroll up my gallery, back to perhaps spring of last year, delete 10-20, and then move on my merry way. I finally attached my phone to my computer to upload pictures today, and 894 later (and that’s only since November), my phone still contains over 2200 pictures.

That I don’t want to remove.

It’s nice to be able to scroll through and see the Peanut from age 4 weeks to now. It’s nice to see pictures of us in Italy, pictures of us on the Cape, pictures of him in the snow, with our families, etc. I am loathe to remove these pictures from my phone, even though I know they’re preserved on my computer (and largely on FB).

Having the past at your fingertips is a lovely feeling.

oh the places we’d go

One of my all time favorite things to do is give presents. If I had a million dollars (if I had a million dollars…), I know exactly what I would spend it on (aboard the world with my entire family… booyah), but I’d also reserve some for all the awesome things I can’t (also shouldn’t) buy for Christmas/birthday/Valentine’s Day/etc. presents.

To wit:

Vacations (Thailand, Australia, Ireland) for everyone to go together. My family is HILARIOUS on vacation, especially if we all have our own rooms and bathrooms and someone can speak some of the language. Also, we like to eat, which leads me too…

Foodie meals at the best restaurants. A few years back the Chop and I went with my sister and her then-boyfriend to Craft in NYC. We racked up an INSANE bill, but it was also one of the best meals of our lives. So we’d need to visit these chef’s restaurants: Thomas Keller, Grant Achatz, Ferran Adrià, Wylie Dufresne, the Voltaggio brothers, Tom Colicchio, Alain Ducasse, Heston Blumenthal, Daniel Boulud, Eric Ripert and David Chang. To start.

Handmade furniture. I find the most awesome artists online and if I could afford to spend $8000 on a table, we’d have a few. Although the Chop would kill me on it.

Private plane and pilot. Hello, how else are we going to get around the world?

Live in housekeeper/chef/butler/driver. It’s one of my dreams, to be able to work and play and have someone make me dinner, pick up groceries and open the mail.

Why did I start thinking about this lately? Because people seem to be up-in-arms about what Blue Ivy (child of Beyonce) received as baby gifts… and that’s freaking ridiculous. Of course she’s going to get thousand dollar strollers and several thousand dollar pieces of art – her parents are filthy rich and their friends are filthy rich. You can’t just show up and give her a layette set and stuffed bear (unless it’s crusted in jewels of some kind)!

Update 2/11 And holy crap, that is one cute baby they made!

happy birthday to my momma

Today is my Mom’s 58th birthday, and just writing that down is a little bit mind-boggling. I’m not sure how a 58-year-old is supposed to act, but I’m pretty sure mine is a very young 58.

My dad and her arrived this evening (they’re heading north to look at housing again tomorrow), and the birthday dinner we made included lobster, garlic cream potatoes and red velvet whoopie pies and cupcakes. My momma likes to eat. πŸ™‚

I love everything about my Mom, but lately what I love most is how much she loves my son – and he absolutely adores her. He was ecstatic when my parents walked in the front door.
