water, water everyfuckingwhere

The Chop and I, like virtually everyone else within about 200 miles, have water in our basement. Due to this lovely “50-year storm” the news is dissecting in every possible way (I counted no less than 10 front page stories on the rain. Really? 10?).

Sadly it’s a finished basement, and now, after two days of using a wet vac, we are calling in the big guns to rip out the carpet. The sad part is that we actually have three sump pumps, and they never stopped working—the damn water just wouldn’t stop coming in.

For something more enjoyable…

welcome the peanut!

I was originally planning on blogging regularly this year… focusing on, if not every day, at least 4-5 times per week. Unsurprisingly, that has been quite difficult, and although part of it is I have too much work, and part of it is there’s nothing interesting to blog about, the other part is that there was an elephant I didn’t want to mention and I found it almost impossible not too.

So instead I blogged some, but kept most of it un-posted.

Drumroll please…

We found out about eight weeks ago that apparently we are highly fertile. Yes, we managed to get pregnant the same damn month we got married—hello Christmas 2009. You were good to us, weren’t you? 😛

Today I’m supposed to be 13 weeks, although according to the ultrasound yesterday, I’m 13 weeks and 6 days, so frankly how they calculate that is beyond my understanding. If at my first ultrasound they said I was 7 weeks, 1 day and at my second ultrasound (when I should’ve been 12 weeks, 6 days) am 13 weeks, 5 days… the baby grew faster? I time-traveled? The kid is just extra-long because Chop is tall? (That’s the one I’m hoping for.)

At around 7 weeks I started feeling not so hot. My liver issue, which they thought was because of estrogen/hormones, appears to definitely be because of estrogen/hormones. My LFTs were all elevated, I was terribly nauseated, exhausted and itchy. My dad started me on the SAM e again and the nausea and itching went away and the LFTs went down.

Unfortunately the itching is returning with a vengeance, so we’ve upped my dose, but sleep and every day life has become quite irritating.

In good news, the baby is kinda cute—although it’s a true my side thing to stick your butt in the air when you’re supposed to be taking a picture. Sooo typical.

I’ve also added a new category, Peanut, and have posted all the posts into it, by their correct date.

so sad and so cute

Don’t watch this unless you are in a location where tearing up wouldn’t be frowned upon—seriously.

From Neatorama: Shelter dog Edie was schedule to be euthanized. She was fearful, aggressive, and hard to control. Then Bronwyne Mirkovich gave her another chance as he and Eldad Hagar recorded the process on video

rain rain go the fuck away

So it’s been raining for three days and three nights, which frankly makes me want to kill myself.

More importantly, it’s been flooding for three days and three nights, which overall was fine, until last night when the Chop checked the basement and lo and behold, water!

Upside was that it was only a small section of the finished basement, and I had wanted to pull out the carpet and put in slate anyway. Downside was that we spent two hours pulling up carpet and carpet padding, which was fucking GLUED TO THE DAMN CONCRETE FLOOR, and attempting to soak up the standing water.

Today the sun is shining (of course it is) and the water appears to have stopped coming in. And in three weeks my parents are coming for a visit and booyah, Daddy’s got a project! 😀

counting on grandpa

We went to see my liver doctor today. All in all it was highly uneventful—he said, “well it looks like your levels have come down without you doing anything,” to which I responded, “I’ve been on SAM e and that’s why they are down.” I found it very annoying.

I don’t think he believes me. Which is odd, considering the first time I was sick the SAM e was what worked—and it was the only thing that worked. After all the pills, tests and scans they could muster, SAM e managed to get me healthy in three months.

He doesn’t think it will affect the peanut—granted, he Googled SAM e and pregnancy while we were sitting in the room—so at this point we carry on as planned. Me ingesting five pills a day (in addition to three others—pregnancy = vitamin overload) and counting on my dad to make sure I don’t turn yellow.

why run from the cops? they’re going to find you, eventually.

There’s this sales guy, who works in the office I come to twice a week, who’s cologne smells like cat litter. And he constantly passes by my desk to talk to someone near me and every. single. time. I try hard not to gag. It’s so irritating.

And that’s what I was going to wax on about today, BUT THEN there was a high speed chase that ended in front of our building, and we proceeded to sit in front of the windows and watch the insanity.

So two cop cars pull the red car over. One cop makes both guys walk to the back and put their hands on the trunk—suddenly, one guy runs. The other cop from the other car jumps out and takes off after him. The cop who stayed bodily forces the other guy to keep his upper body on the trunk. It appears he is yelling at him, but our windows are very thick. He finally cuffs him and makes him sit on the sidewalk. Another cop car shows up.

The running cop comes back… he has not caught the guy. He is red-faced, huffing and puffing and very, very pissed. He grabs the cuffed guy and throws him into the police car. Now another police car has arrived. Two of the cops are still huffing and puffing (bigger, very red-faced and visibly pissed off), while the other cop who has arrived starts going through the car. Then they are all going through the car and another cop arrives.

Passersby are starting to hang out on the other side of the street, and the kid who was sweeping the parking lot today has swept the same spot, next to the cops, for the past 10 minutes. It’s very clean now.

They towed the car, after going through it quite haphazardly, and now I believe two cops are left to take statements from people who saw the whole thing.

I feel like Law & Order is happening right outside my window and it is so much fun.

apple’s old spice manmercial

I will not deny, I love the new Old Spice commercials. It’s a combination of the actor’s delivery and the insanity of what they think turns women on that never fails to make me smile.

And now… the Apple version.

A large portion of the time I am bugged by people, but then they go and make this and I think, mm, we are so entertaining. I love us. 😀

As request, the original version for comparison…

aw PUPPIES

A seriously cute video of dogs in slow motion, jumping for treats. Ridiculously adorable.

I found it on Boing Boing.
