the drug of social networks

Out of sheer boredom, and because my cousin asked me too, I joined Facebook last night.

Ugh, I know, but it’s way better than MyEvilSpace, and honestly, now I’m a little entertained.

I’ve had two long back-and-forths now with old friends who I haven’t talked to in over seven years. It’s a little insane.

Now I’m trying to stay off it, because really, it’s a little like crack, lol.

oh the weather outside is frightful

Saturday the Chop and I went shopping to get some last minute groceries and return a broken item to Target.. I won’t bore you with the details, but let’s just say Target less than two weeks before Christmas? Not good. No, no, no. The traffic, the insanity, the mounds of snow and ice… nightmare.

When we got home it was dark (winter sucks that way), and I was on the phone with a friend. Somehow, during the phone call, the insane dog desperately needing to pee and all the bags, we forgot to shut Chop’s trunk. Yeah. And it snowed and rain and the wind blew and the next morning it was bad, very, very bad.

I spent yesterday baking, which is typically a family activity and that made me a little sad, but feeding the burnt cookies (new oven, whoops) to a very willing dog made it a little better. 🙂 Chop delivered some to the landlord and some to our nice new neighbors who brought us fudge the other evening, and I am taking a plate to work… one that will be devoured in seconds, knowing them.

Today he went to NYC for work for four days. Of course the Amtrak station parking lot was full, so he ended up parking a mile away, hoofing it, missing the train and then learning his car might be towed. It’s a stick-shift and so I can’t get a taxi there, because I couldn’t drive it home, lol, and I can’t seem to find anyone to go with me, so that sucks. But fortunately he just had his year-end review and he’s getting a raise (again, the bastard… my job sucks), so he can just pay to get it out, lol.

My best friend sent me presents off Amazon this year (so smart) and so now I can watch Annie and Mary Poppins while Chop is gone. Yay for me. 🙂

We actually opened presents this weekend (it’s just easier when we are going out of town), and one of my surprise gifts was a Nintendo DS… does anyone have any good game recommendations? We have Brain Age, and I want Monopoly, lol, but there are SO many more and I need help!

snow, snow, snow

Buckets of snow came down yesterday around here, falling at a rate of about two inches per hour, and we ended up with around 10 to 12 inches.

Regina thinks it’s the greatest thing ever and loves to be outside.

And this is our snowman. 🙂

intricacies of the Internet

My dad is a very smart man. Brilliant even. And he should be, he’s a doctor. And he loves electronics, so computers aren’t foreign to him. He has a Mac, an iPod, etc., and he had a Mac way back when.. I remember playing on it in the early ’90s.

Today he called me, he couldn’t get onto a website, they said his password was incorrect, etc., etc.

I gave him my login, saying I wasn’t sure he ever had one in the first place, but sure, use mine.

Apparently he was buying Christmas presents.

And apparently he forgot that the confirmation email goes to the person with the account.

The shipping address was included on the email, LOL, so I now know what I’m getting for Christmas.

I really want to call him and be all, “Um, hello, confirmation email?” But I’m going to be nice and just pretend I don’t know, lol.

pratchett news

This sucks.

Pratchett is one of my favorite authors, introduced to me a couple of years ago by grampa, and I think it’s just incredibly sad that such a great, prolific author would get early-onset Alzheimer’s.

He’s one of those authors who was good in the beginning and has gotten great over the lifetime of his books. He’s funny and engaging and if you are incredibly sick from a mystery illness, his books will make you laugh. I swear.

christmas at the new house

The house is clean, the tree is up and we are totally settled in the new place.

Not the best picture, lol, but that’s the tree, in front of the fireplace.

New house
Here’s the new place.

New fireplace..
Before the tree…

And where I am sitting right now

I don’t have any good upstairs pictures yet, and the office was a mess when I was taking pictures, full of Christmas boxes and wrapping paper, lol. And the kitchen is messy too, LOL. OK, we’re still cleaning.

national day of goodness

Guess what today is?

Guess, guess, guess!

Give up?

National Cotton Candy Day.

It’s a very important day, so go make some. Or if you don’t have a handy-dandy cotton candy machine, buy some.

drafts

Driving all the way up to work (60 miles), where it’s 5 degrees colder than at home (17), and finding out that the heat upstairs in your office area is broken is not a good way for my day to start.

That is a bad, bad thing.

Also that no one actually told the bosses. Wtf?

Fortunately the CEO had some space heaters she brought me, so I’m slowly defrosting.

However, I slipped coming down the steps outside this morning when Regina decided to bolt for a bird. I managed to stay upright, but twisted and one leg went off the porch whilst the other stayed inside, effectively doing the splits.

After much cursing, we were in the car and heading to work.

All was well until I released there seemed to be an odd draft on my thigh.

Yes. I ripped a hole in my pants.

Fuck it, I thought, I’m not turning around.

So now I am at work, in a room where it is hovering around 55 degrees, with a hole in my pants.

What a morning.

unlimited cocktail time

I love my parents. I love them deeply and I am SO glad they were here to help us move and clean and put up curtains and fix broken things.

But I am also SO glad they have gone to NYC for a conference and won’t be coming back here for awhile.

The house is awesome, so much has gotten done and we couldn’t have accomplished half as much as we did without them, but my dear god, I haven’t gotten laid in over a week and there is only so many times my mom can “suggest” a maid come twice a month before I begin to get a complex.

The Chop has now taken to saying “we are SO filthy” and the poor dog is afraid to drink water.. I swear to you, my mom was trying to wipe her muzzle every time to prevent drips on the new, perfectly refinished hardwood floors.

And if you have a dog, you know that ain’t gonna happen.
