Time’s What the World Eats

There is an amazing photo gallery on TIME magazine’s website titled, “What the World Eats.”

Images depicting how much, and what, families in 15 different countries spend on food each week.

It’s very bizarre.

i’ll take care of myself, thank you

My mom called the other day (granted, my mom calls almost every day, so it’s really nothing special) to let me know that my dad wasn’t feeling well (ANYONE who knows my dad… aka, sister, cousin, don’t mention this to him! or her!).

OK, so, my dad wasn’t feeling well, he got up out of bed around 3AM, and didn’t come back to bed from the bathroom. My mom goes in there and he’s bent over and thinking he might be having appendicitis or diverticulitis (which you get if you don’t eat enough fiber and oh my god, my dad is the King of Fiber, fiber at every meal, here have some more bran on your cereal, so that idea was a surprise to me), so she gets in the shower so they can go to the hospital (in particular, I LOVE that part).

Anyway, the extreme pain subsides and he decides to try and get back to bed (he’s been on call and he has to go back to the hospital in a few hours anyway, so yeah, obviously going back to bed when you think you might have appendicitis is the BEST plan here).

The next day, after he does his consults, he goes and gets some labs done (I really love that he doctored himself, because you know, doctors don’t need other doctors… ever).

At this point I’ve been calling my mom every few hours to see if they have figured out what’s wrong, and his diagnosis (of himself, you know) is that now it’s probably not appendicitis and it might not be diverticulitis and it might be… eh, he doesn’t know. He’s waiting on labs.

Somewhere in this waiting on labs, etc., my mom (the one without the MD) suggests that possibly, just maybe, he could have a kidney stone? Because he’s been working out a lot recently and might not be getting enough water? And my dad, being in pain and the one with the MD, scoffs a bit at her suggestion. But my mom, being the Ruler of Her House (and if you don’t believe me I just dare you to cross her), insists that he check that too.

And so he does, just because she said so and really, if she’s right and he didn’t check it, he would NEVER live it down. (I love my mom, lol.)

Now we’re waiting on more tests. It apparently doesn’t look like a stone, but it could be some sludge, or something else altogether.

But it’s cool, because he’s a doctor and he will doctor himself, thank you very much.

And no, you don’t need to inform the girls, I am just fine, yada, yada, yada.

Obviously what I’d love to do is call him and kick his ass for not actually going to see a doctor.. a doctor who is not him, perhaps a doctor who will give him a check up? On everything? Like his heart, etc.?

Because I swear to god, he hasn’t had a check up since he became a doctor that he didn’t do himself and I’m telling you right now, if he gets really sick because he didn’t go see somebody I will personally fly home and kick his ass.

(Also, seriously, sis/cuz, don’t tell them I wrote this, lol! You can talk to mom, but not dad. 😀 )

eskimo kisses and notes to grandma

I hate having voicemails when I come in to work on Tuesdays, particularly when they are from the Friday before. It says on my extension to reach me via email, but do they ever email? Noooo, that would be way to easy.

So this morning I called back one woman (who bugged me at the conference, and who apparently will bug me forever) re: a change to her page on our virtual tradeshow site (she was emailed about this three weeks ago, but huh, funny thing, she never responded :P).

It went to her cellphone voicemail, where instead of just, “Hi, this is so-and-so, leave a message,” it said, “Hi, this is so-and-so, I can’t be reached right now, but let me leave you with an inspirational message. Today’s message comes from 1st Corinthians yada yada and it says yada yada yada.”

The woman used her voicemail system to launch a sneak religious attack on me!?! WTF? Also, her work phone? Come on now people.

Anyway, Reggie wanted to leave some notes for people…

happy birthday to the sister

Today, my sister turns 26, which means she is past a quarter of a century and well on her way to being quite old. 😀

And I couldn’t really decide what to get her.

fun_20.jpgI thought maybe this:

fun_79.jpgBut then, no, I said, she’d like this better:

fun_25.jpgThen I stumbled upon this, and thought, “that’s the ticket!”:

fun_53.jpgUntil I saw this, and realized, ah yes, she’s like me:

Sadly, I chose instead to send her dinner, which in the end, I think she liked just as much.

Even if a Louis Vuitton [cake] was her dream. 😉

All images, Charm City Cakes.

interesting tidbits

Apparently Vermont wants to secede, and I find that hilarious. (Also, it kinda makes me want to move up there, lol.)

I adore this woman. No, really, I do. I want to be just like her in 15 years. She’s hilarious, unpretentious, a brilliant writer and a phenomenal photographer. Go see. Oh, and she cooks things that are really bad for you. 🙂

She cooks, too. Sadly, I don’t think the Chop would like any of it, lol, so I just look at the pictures and marvel at the colors. 🙂

I want one of these. And if I can’t have one, then I want one of these. Home away from home, anyone?

I love this siteparticularly the recycled bags. So cute.

The Porkchop and I just got these. Working from the couch at home, our computers were getting way too hot. This thing is amazing.

I want this.

I want a kid so I can buy this lamp, lol. Oh, and these too. 🙂

cape cod

Best thing about summer: Chop and I just made reservations for an apartment in Provincetown, on the tip of Cape Cod.

Plans for next weekend: double feature at the Drive-In on CC (Shrek 3 and Spiderman 3), frisbee with Reggie on the National Seashore, delicious food in P-town, shopping!, swimming and sunning.

Doodoodoo.. I finally get a vacation! Yay!
