why don’t people pay on time?
June 30th, 2008 | by the insider |I have outstanding invoices from companies that are today over a month old. For the one, I just lumped it into next month’s invoice and said, PAY ME NOW. For the other, I said, what exactly is your pay schedule?
And then proceeded to be flabbergasted as I turned in an invoice today (still haven’t gotten paid for May), and I was informed I wouldn’t get paid for June until the end of July. Hello, WTF? The accountant there already doesn’t like me, so this should really be a fun email exchange.
I don’t get it. Someone does work for you, sends you a bill, you pay said bill. Where’s the confusion?

Welcome to my world… I just finished the office invoicing, and noticed that we have some bills that are 2-3 years old. I am tempted to ask my boss; ‘At what point do we just give up?’

In the future, tell that company that you will require a retainer because they took so long to pay you.
That will get their attention.
